There are several sensitive issues around this subject including:
Allowing the word to be spread, while respecting that family/friends ideally won't read it here first.
Allowing members to express their sympathies/feelings, while respecting that those affected might not want the constant reminder.
Allowing members to avoid the sub-forum if they wish because they have genuine reasons for doing so.
Not allowing old threads to be bumped, potentially upsetting those affected unnecessarily and unintentionally.
Avoid having multiple threads reporting the same news/incident.
To try and address these issues the following will happen:
- A new forum "Condolences" will be created as a sub-forum of "Biking news" (the traditional place for such threads).
- New threads will require Moderator (or CMod, SuperMod, Admin) approval before becoming visible.
- Members will be able to express their sympathies/feelings (no Moderator approval required for replies).
- Threads will be listed for 30 days only (they'll still be accessible, but just not listed by default).
- Threads in the Condolences forum will not be listed in the forum portal.
- The existing "Past Members" forum will be made a sub-forum of the Condolences forum.
- All Moderators (etc.) will be able to Moderate the "Condolences" forum.
Please be respectful and considerate, particularly in this forum.
