Was in Hein Gericke a few weeks back, picked up a bottle of Rainex Nikwax visor spray.

Never used it until this morning. Lashing rain so I threw a bit on the visor and rubbed it in lightly.

Did my usual commute, 28klms in the rain and all I can say is WOW!

Why did I never try it before. Rain just rolled off the visor and I could concentrate in riding and filtering instead of trying to see and constantly rubbing the visor to try to ineffectively clear it.

Much safer ride to work as a result.

I have a wee rubber yokey (think it's a vee wipe) on the left forefonger of my glove, does a decent enough job. Bought some pink chit that looked like an oil pastel at the NEC/RDS show and it only made matters worse, it was supposed to reduce glare, glare that I didn't know existed until this was applied, have been wary of contaminating visor with chemicals since - But, Always open to new ideas so will give it a go if I come across it.

The pink stick is for the inside of the visor to prevent mist / fogging up. It does cause some glare but its bearable imo. It does work, but has to be applied to a very clean visor, and it doesnt seem to last all day.

Tried the nikwax once and the big globules of rain turned into millions of tiny little ones....nightmare! Could barely see a thing!
Did I not put enough on or is this the desired effect?

I found the opposite, little drops merge with the big ones and it just rolls off. You put very little on it.

Your man demo'd it on the outside as well, rain supposed to just roll off.. maybe he was just on the hard sell that day. Dosn't taste nice either...

I tried the "bike it" equivalent of the Nikwax rain repellent and despite several attempt I found it of no use at all.

I use rain-X, and despite dire warnings about it killing visors I haven't found any damage.

Flexibility, resistance to 70mph stones (proven in real life) or discolouring all ok.

I find it works best on an spotless visor, so I apply it after removing the visor, washing with washing up liquid, allowing to dry, apply one coat, wait for it to dry, apply second coat and buff off.


That lasts me a week or 600 miles in bad weather, 2-3 weeks if drier.
