Doing a bit of Head scratching and went around the net for some answers on it this morning,,seemingly the needle dancing to 7,000rpm with the 1998 to 2000 R1 is a fault diagnostic and the newer models throw it up as in code error on the newer L.C.D clocks,,,pointing towards an EXUP problem with the Valve itself or slack or siezed EXUP cables...
The bike itself has been sitting unridden for at least a year and on removing the cover off the EXUP valve i see 1 of the cables is slack and a nice bit of corrosion and dryness around the outside of the unit itself because of Exhaust heat and it's location on the exhaust itself, near the underside of it taking all the sith the road can throw up..
Found this site on my searching, WWW.CARTESTSOFTWARE.COM and on the main page it has a section called Pat's Motorcycle Page,,Dealing with the 1st generation FZS1 Fazer 1000 with detailed sections in it and pictures covering the servicing of the EXUP (exhaust Valve Maintance)amongst other items..
Now to get the spanners out some part of the day and give it it's once over as it's recommended to be done every 6,000 miles or at service time and hopefully resolve its misbehaving issues
If any of the Mods want to link the site up into the post......(Exup Mex
