New riders will have to have their learner permit before they do the IBT course but they will not be able to ride on the road on their own until they pass the course.

can't post prices up here but it will include bike hire & gear etc. as you can't ride your own bike to the compound.
That sounds a little like you dont want to get peoples backs up! Also sounds like its going to be expensive!!
Surely there could be an option for a rider to do the course on their own bike? There not that hard to transport!

No not at all forum rules can't put up prices.
If your own bike is tranported to the offroad site then of course you can use it and will make the course cheaper.
My outlook on this is to make it as cheap as possible so as not to put people of bikes.
Each instructor will have his own costs to cover with no help from the gov., rsa, etc. etc.

16 hours @ min €20 per hour = min €320 (probably a LOT more)... just to get started
But what can we do..them the rules lads...gonna have to stump up for my daughter's car IBT next year too

Will it be marked on the licence or something that you have the course done?

Nah there was an article on the Examiner a while back saying lessons are more like €40 an hour. I stand to be corrected but I paid €80 for my pretest so €40 sounds like it may be correct. I'd like a third option in the poll! I agree with training in principle but the cost is too much, it needs a better way of funding.
Always ask why...

I agree that people should have to do some training before being allowed on the road. It should ensure that people have at least an idea how to control a bike. I'm not sure how many accidents people riding on scooters and small bikes with no training account for, but surely they all get counted as motorcycle accidents. Im sure this should help reduce these.

It would be completely unfair to expect someone to HAVE to pay €640 to get lessons, (I paid €40 for one lesson with my instructor, I am not applying this price to every instructor) before they even have an opportunity to do the test, even if the instructor believes the student capable of passing the test after a few lessons.
What happens in that case? Does the instructor "sign off" on the student to allow the student do the test?
If the instructor did that, whats the legality?
While the need for tuition is sourly needed, but in my opinion, 16 lessons is overkill for a lot of people. Some may need more, but the instructor should be able to assess the student as the lessons continue throughout. Say, 3 compulsory lessons, and then 1 lesson at a time as the instructor sees fit.
