Anyone been caught speeding by one of the new vans yet?
Just wondering if they have cameras pointing the other way to get the reg.

Yep there have been a few posts about it. From those posts and some peoples inside knowledge it is safe to say they can now catch bikes.

money generating scheme, anyone with a bit of spare cash can go up north and get a full package installed that will detect and jam any speed vans (the method of jamming remains undetectable by the vans). It is marketed as working effectively against these new vans and is 100% legal. Costs £2,250.00 as far as I can remember and apparently many of Irelands well off have been up prior to these new vans hitting the roads to avoid any fines and disgruntlement.

Untill you can afford to give the UK some additional tax money you will be in trouble whilst in the car and on the bike you would be best stopping if possible (ie doing 70 in a 50 zone) and remove the plate before ou pass the van. When you get past and out of the camera range pull over and put the plate back on again.

Or instead of going to all that trouble pull your brake slightly and go past at the legal speed?

I've been through a load of threads on here recently and I still can only figure they can get a rear reg plate there are lots of other questions people have on this subject perhaps a sticky with facts is needed

Pay attention, the advice given is to avoid a penalty in the future.

Obviously if you are given the heads up by a flash from someone on the other side of the road then hit the brakes (for many potential reasons) and do what ever the limit is. But should this not happen and you round a corner to see the van staring you down then its already too late you clocked and speeding however you will not be identified untill you pass the van and this could be at any speed the other camera is to get your details.

So you need to stop before the van get off the bike and remove the plate and ride past. They will record you as speeding and have you on camera but will not have a plate to sent the bill to.

Actually I have an idea or two,

Idea 1 (for cagers only)

We need to unite as people of ireland and take a hit every now and then so when you see a speed van crash into it. You dont have to kill yourself just make sure you write it off. Easy to do. You of coarse need to have insurance and a protection policy but that is very common now adays. It wont take ,long for something to happen should this become a regular occurance however it would need the people to make a stand as nobody wants to be the first line soldier on a charge against a machine gun nest.

Idea two (for everybody)
Brake really hard and only go 10kph no matter what the limit is. Hopefully (heaven forbit) there will be some sort of other crash or mayhem to follow as a result. I have started to do this already sure whats another couple of seconds on my journey to pish people off so much hopefully somebody somewhere will do something.

If you see the van in the distance, jam on your brakes and come to a complete halt, then reverse back up the road

That wasn't clear the 1st time the 1st post read like once you see a van stop take of your plates pass however you like then stop put plates back on.

Yeah but one interpretation is stupid and the other is a good idea.

Dangerous for you as you most likely have to roll back around a bend.

Cars were going so slow past one such van on the Platin Road into Drogheda that I was able to pass on a straight without breaking the limit of 80km/h,
Also filtered up the N2 near Kilmoon past another van and all cages were at a standstill, I'd say they caught plenty that day.

Yeah but when it wasn't obvious from the other post which is why I asked why you wouldn't just slow down. Thats the problem with these things as oppose to face to face sometimes meanings arent as clear to others as we think

Im quite sure people jamming on their brakes when they see a speed camera has caused accidents, You would be depending on the person behind you to be paying attention

I myself would like to see a 'can o'muck' come on the market.... In a handy pocket size, so you can just filthy that reg plate up. Combine that with a strategically placed tax disk and your sorted!!!

is there not already some sort of spray that you can put over your number plate that isnt very obvious to the naked eye but causes to much glare on the pic or something so the plate can't be read. Im sure I heard of something (not legal surprisingly) for sale in the uk. Think there the cameras flash which and then the spray reflects too much of the light or something like that

Yeah but static cameras are not a problem they can be burnt out without guilt (of killing little jimmy's dad) or any confrontation.

Saw a thing on TV about that... maybe top gear, coulda been mythbusters though. It didnt work!!

This comes from a source on the inside If you are travelling towards the rear of the van you are fine, if you are travelling towards the font of the van you will be done. The vans can detect speed both ways, however, the cameras are only facing the back of the van - none facing towads the front. Ive seen one 4x4 near the roundabouts just after the landfil, not sure about those ones yet.
