A standard box rack can make them look a b it of a minger. It costs a wee bit more but the SW-Motech kit I have is barely noticed when you don't have the panniers on. As for corners, I never found mine heavy at all but she is better since the upgrades.
I even finded a linky to the piccies!

I'm not a speed merchant, - don't need the points, fines or insurance hikes - but it's nice to know the torque and speed is there when you need it on bends and for overtaking.
The only time you feel the weight is at very slow speed or getting her upright from the side-stand if parked on a slight incline.
I've got 10,000 miles on Michelin Pilot road 2's - and a few more to go!
Changed chain and sprockets last autumn and got a Scottoiler which will hopefully extend the life of C&S - have only tightened it once since.
I have Givi box and panniers, no, not the prettiest but are well balanced and you don't feel the load once moving. Taken my son and daughter pillion, comfortable enough tho' they find it a bit windy as the seat is higher and I'm somewhat "crouched" in front. Haven't ridden her with both luggage and pillion yet.
I use the bike for both short commutes and pleasure (it's all pleasure really!). I get about 45mpg on average.
BTW - Mine is an 04 fuel-injected model.
Good luck with the search!

Jeez Sean we will have to do a swap soon. To echo what Someday said, the Bird is a very fast and powerful bike, you really do have to be careful on motorways as you'd be doing high speeds and you wouldn't really notice. It is indeed a heavy bike and at slow speeds needs a lot of help getting around the place. It is also hard for me to get it up on the center stand, but with a good shove I can manage it.
In saying all of that, the way the Bird delivers the power is astonishing. Its warp nine in a blink of an eye. I put on Perilla Angels (Sorry spelling) Its like the bike is stuck to the ground the grip is so good. As I said before I had it on a track training day and found out just how good everything was on the Bird. The brakes are phenomenal, its just unreal the stopping power. One day out on my favorite road coming down into Drogheda from Duleek and I was nipping along quite fast. A van pulls out, he didn't see me coming. All my options were gone, on the other side traffic coming at me and on the inside, total no-no gravel and siht on the edge of the road. Only option was to stop and stop quickly. I stopped with a little bit to spare, heart rate went up quite a bit. I was just amazed by the brakes, espiecally coming from a Harley background.
My advice is to take a good look at the Blackbird, get a good test ride for a couple of hours if you can. Oh mine is an 02 fuel injected one, he can be quite thristy if your heavy handed and belive me its hard to resist the power of this bike.

Weak points are the usual Honda reg/rec, and the rear shock not lasting too long.

Have had 2 Bbirds, great bikes, will tour two up, scratch and still leave you feeling like you've been sitting on a comfy sofa all day long.
I've sent up a PM re panniers. But if you dont buy one maybe the others will be interested in the following:
For Blackbird:
Top box Givi E46
Panniers Givi 36
Racks are full SW Motech with all fixtures n fittings.
Also have bar risers from Jaws UK (raise up and back about an inch which makes a huge difference)
Have Baglux Bagster tank harness too in black.
Apologies for the thread hijack lol but you might grab yourself a bargain too!!! lol
