CBR 600 F Sport

Looking to trade in my Hornet 600 and ideally Id like to go for the above.
Iv picked a CBR 600 F Sport as I didnt want the kind of uncompromising sportiness of the RR(not yet!) but didnt really like the look of the normal F version. Of course cost is a consideration and good condition F Sports come in at 2k-ish.
Major annoyance on the hornet for me is the lack of adjustability on suspension settings, so looking forward to the options on the Sport! As well as the sportier riding position.
This colour is my favourite :

Does anyone have any thoughts? Maybe someone who has owned one can let me know?

deffo 600F is easier on the body than the 600RR..
Great bikes as are all flavours of 600Fs...the one you've linked to is a nice looker

Hmm, there not the worst disadvantages :
- I find the Hornet suspension too soft and wothout a fork oil change etc its a PITA
- Never had a centre stand on any bike!
- Rarely take pillions, but when I do, its for short trips!
Thanks for that Darkcloud!
I actually can't find that many Sports in Ireland, are they a little bit rare compared to RR / Standard F's?
Or maybe its a case of ten a penny when you dont want to buy one but when you do!!??!

With the traditional 600f you gate a great all round bike with adjustable suspension, nice cockpit etc, good comfy seat. So if its your first this would be the one i would send you towards.
Only upgrade i would recommend would be the front brake lines, apart from that as above, great bike.
I dont know what your budget is but this is a nice tidy standard clean looking bike, price is in stg from Aleens up north.
But as ever, shop around!

I think you'll find less of them in Ireland as they were only manufactured 01/02 (I think) so kinda limits your choice compared to standard 600F which was produced from way back up to about 2006... although mine was an 03 reg I gather it was an 02 bike
I'd say go with a 600F standard...personal choice would be 99/00 model (FX/FY model)...I sold mine a couple of years ago and regret it to this day
best of luck

Thanks! The reason I picked a Sport Version is its the first time I have got the go ahead(after considerable effort) from the insurance company for a proper sports bike.
I havnt ruled out the RR(only young once!) or other brands, just the F Sport seemed to fit the bill.
Its a nice bike alright but a bit out of my price range. can't imagine that my Hornet will get a very good price

Im a bit torn to be honest! On one hand i I want a "pukka" sportsbike because as I said above "your only young once!" On the other - sourcing one, price, practicality etc!
All good problems to have!

I bought the R1 shortly afterwards and when I went back to the CBR I found the front end horribly light so my recommendation would be the addition of a steering damper. Other than that, it's the pick of the 600's from it's era.
Best of luck with your search.

IIRC the bike Kaos had was a standard (non sport) 600F...I thought about buying it at one stage....and it was restricted
Myself / kelpie / fazerpete shared the same one (Polly she was called

Correct, I had the standard 600F version but there are only a few differences to the FS (or F4i Sport as its called in the US)
Some points have already been mentioned but I'll go over them again just to have all the info in one post:
The FS has a slightly higher revving engine, a few BHP more, a stronger clutch, however, if you buy a 600F built from '03 on you get the same engine as the FS just with a standard clutch (my 600F was '04 and I never had any problems with the clutch)
The FS had the main stand removed for greater ground clearance, cosmetically it also it got a snazzy red/black paint job with a black frame and swing arm and a stepped seat. On the mechanical side there was a different camshaft profile for higher lift valves and it had uprated valves springs. A lighter flywheel. An eight (one extra) plate clutch and a larger final drive for greater acceleration completed the Sport. All of this was done so the bike lended itself better for race tuning.
Living with one day to day is a piece of p!ss, they're a Honda, the last generation of the 600F with a bulletproof motor, all day comfort (I had a 600RR at the same time as I had the f, using the F was like climbing onto a sofa compared to the RR) Stick a Scotoiler and a decent chain on it and you will rarely need to adjust the chain.
Only thing to watch is the Cam Chain Tensioner working itself lose, this happens all CBRs (it happened my 260, 600F, 600RR and 954RR) You can get a manual one from APE Racing in the States or remove and clean the Auto one but it'll only work itself loose again. Its nothing to really worry about, can just make the bike sound a bit rattlely on startup.
Riding wise, its like all 600cc Honda's, you need to rev the absolute nuts off it to get it to go anywhere. Seriously, these things were made for high-revving. She still motors along nicely in the lower revs, but doesn't really come alive until 7k+ rpm. Stick a slip on on for a lovely sound
Loads and loads of parts available for them should you want to tweek and tune it to your tastes. They respond well to Power Commanders and full systems but tbh they're not really needed (you won't get massive power gains though, just a smoother ride) unless you find yourself with a flat spot in the range (happens to some of them)
Hope that helps, if you've any questions just shout, overall they're a fantastic first "proper" sportsbike that's also well able to munch up the miles.
