I'd out protesting too if they tried that over here.......
I'd say 100 bikes chained together in front of the each entrance to the Dail for a few hours when the dail is sitting might make them see the error of there ways....

From a biker perspective when I crossed France I was very impressed by the behaviour of the french drivers. Every time I went through a traffic jam in the savage Paris's periferique or in the motorway around the country, they all allowed me to filter in moving their cars aside. Fair play to them !!
