Rear shock on the VFR is bust, looking at my options. The original shock can't be rebuilt, it's in too bad shape.

So doing a bit of digging, I was quoted €680 for original Honda shock in Spain, €650 for aftermarket shock, plus 3 hours labour to replace it.

So I whipped it out myself in a few minutes and brought it home in handluggage.

Checked eBay and a few shops, Just about to order a Hagon replacement from Horsepower (<€300).

Anyway, before I order I was doing some digging and came across a mod on the VFR forum. Seems a lot of guys replace the VFR shock with a shock from a 929 blade.

It has the same spring rate but 42mm shorter so the top bracket needs a slight mod to extend the top mounting bracket.



It has an external reservoir so apparently keeps the oil cooler but apparently gives a much better ride.

So just wondering has anyone here done the mod? Is it worth doing or should I just get the Hagon replacement for the VFR (The easy option)

€300 is a good price, Hagon list it at £300 on their site.

Agreed, great price and he can have it in within 5 days?

No experience with the vfr , but I fitted a pair of hagon twin shocks to my cb5 and the ride is shall we say, a tad harsh in bump with too little rebound, although at least they don't bottom out like the old originals .
I fitted a mono shock to my slr and it was/ is a tad soft for my lighteight body . It has a combined bump /rebound adjuster which i've had to adjust to near maximum to prevent bottoming out.. (I purchased from horsepower ,they had the best price at the time)
The next time i'm in the market i think i'll look at custom , to match my weight /riding style, maxton / nitron ? ohlins is a tad expensive.

Haven't ordered it yet, rang Horsepower today to order it only to realise my Visa card has expired and the new one was at home so didn't have the expiry date

Yep, go for it, I will give him a shout. Do you know the condition of the shock and does it come with the top bracket?

Cheers Alfie but the shaft is pretty badly scarred and it's in pretty bad shape overall. Gonna bin it

FWIW zOU's VFR is the 750 model.

Well, decided not to do the mod in the end. Went for a new Hagon shock (On order from Horsepower, €290, great price)

Bringing it out to Spain in handluggage next Tuesday, looking forward to a week of spinning around in the sunshine.

Look up Wilbers,they are German and very good quality.They'll set the shock to your weight and are not bad on pricing
