Guys,
I am at a loss - i have searched the web and can not find anywhere in ireland that does off road training - I want to look at a dual sport bike like the Africa or even the transalp but do not want to go head long into trouble going off road - so i wanted to do some training first and seeing if it is for me - I do find it very hard to find bikes to fit my build and it affects how i drive a bike ( being 5'8 and very little weight, cough cough :-) under 9 stone), so big 1000cc bikes are completely out.
Does anyone know of a training school or center like this one in wales http://www.offroadskills.com where bikes are supplied and training given from novice to experienece.
Any help would be great.
Brian

Not aware of any on our shores apart from motocross one which wouldn't be any use to you with the bikes you have mentioned.

BMW do a great off-road course in Wexford I think but I'm not sure when it is on next. This is really good but quite expensive. It is the same as the one run by Si Pavey in Wales
I have done a couple of off road courses with i2i (i2imca.com) in Yorkshire. These are reasonable priced and great. They supply KTM bikes and gear. Great roads around Yorkshire so you can make a great weekend of it.
If you want to tour, the Africa and transalp are good machines, but I wouldn't choose to take them off road. They can do it certainly, but for enjoyable off road you want a lightweight machine. Dual purpose bikes do neither especially well so depending on what you want to do, think carefully about what bike to choose.
A fully loaded bike is no fun -especially after you've picked it up more than once.
Cheers,

some of us did courses with them too, and found them great

yea, as Wheeee says, the AT is great, if you are a 6'4" weight lifter
BUT when taken off-road,
fully loaded,
without a support truck,
and camera crew,
and Ewan,
and you are not super-human ... ...
maybe have a look at the Suzuki DRZ400 or the Yamaha XT600E
mucho lighter, and many times more off-road friendly,
esp to those of lighter physique, lol.

Thanks guys for all the input
i have actually picked up a TDM 850 for free, just needs a bit of work to get it running (which i sorted last night at about 1am, i love being on holidays) and i found one place in ireland to do some green laneing and more advanced stuff but you do need your own bike
http://www.trailbike...ure-journey.php
Had some douths about the TDM as an Adventurer, but found some mods that can be done to it to make it more off-road than it looks
