Does anybody here use ebooks or now consider using them with the latest Kindle being available for €100 approx? I'm thinking that they might be useful for guides, maps etc when touring.

I have a Kindle - I would never have actually went and bought such a thing, but my brother gave me it for Christmas a couple of years ago, and I must say it is a wonderful yoke. I don't use it that much, but that's merely because I haven't as much time for reading as I would like, electronic or otherwise. I do indeed use eBooks, and have bought a few from Amazon. It certainly would be nice to see more eBook products aimed at the tourer - maps, guides, etc.

On a slightly tangential note, I'm liking the look of the new Kindle Fire:

i use ebooks on my phone, as i dont have a kindle. i love real books but its pretty cool that ive less to carry with me. I think theyre a great invention

Great device, very handy when travelling for a while and you don't want to carry a heap of books. Very easy to read, no eye strain. Free 3G internet in 100 countries too, not fast but very useful. Handles PDFs nicely.

relatively new to ebooks but now can't imagine being without the kindle! great for travelling and you can read for longer as the screen is alot easier on the eye than a computer screen!

Have bought a few ebooks using the kindle app on the netbook and the ipod touch.
Couple of little annoyances with it-dont seem to be able to make bookmarks, or add notes. But could just be my unfamiliarity with it.
If the reader is really less than €100 I'll be buying one.

Edit: Ah thats seems like its for the basic one. Is the Touch and Fire not available in europe ?

I'm not rightly sure what the setup is. I have the Kindle Keyboard 3G, but it was physically lugged over from Manhattan by me brother!

Details of the Fire here - Kindle fire, but there is no mention of availability. I read somewhere that it was from November onwards.

Looks like there's no 3G version, which is a bit of a bummer. Whispernet rules!

Only real difference I've seen between the Sony & Kindle is that there is no reflection/glare from the Kindle whereas there is with the Sony. I'd imagine that the Kindle is better for reading in the sunshine (obviously out foreign) than the Sony on this point.
