6000 KM or 6 months
Thats to avoid paying VAT, you have to pay VRT regardless calculated using year and cc. There is a VRT calculator available for free, search google.
I found that its pretty competative in ireland now although you wont get many RC8's or rare bikes.
Do what you will, this world's a fiction and is made up of contradiction.

That website is confusing as you must meet both conditions or you end up paying vat.
I got caught for vat and Officer said website was wrong so cough up.
Vrt is easy to calculate. Enter cc and registration and it tells you the ammount .

i'm not worried about the VRT but don't want to get caught for VAT as well.

Sorry but you ain't got any choice. The day I went in it was pishing out of the heavens but they insisted in checking the frame number and mileage.
I said why bother as bike was more than 6 months old and then was given the vat invoice. It has to meet both conditions and you will be asked for Dealer invoice too.

yes, unless you drive it to berlin and back a few times. 10km per euro at a guess so you need to spend about €550 on petrol to get the milage right. VAT on the rocket would be at the market price they think its worth so prob 10K or somethink crazy meaning a 2k VAT bill.

Vat on the cost of the bike YES
Vat on the shipping charges YES
Vat on the cost of the crate ( had to supply invoice )YES
Vat on the shipping insurance YES
Vat on the import agents fees YES
add all the vats together and then add the cost of the bike and then charged import duty
And then she started up first time - didnt tell them there was a drop of petrol still in it or they would have charged me for that as well

Yes, its 12Months and 1 day minimum.
When i returned to Ireland in 93, i brought home a cheap Escort estate with me. the Customs lads followed me one day until i pulled in, they questioned the vehicle status. i told them i was home from UK and brought it with me.
They said if i could prove residency in UK for a Year and a day there was no VRT to pay. I burned my old Poll Tax demands so i told them to keep the old £50 wreck!

VRT is illegal under EU law, it used to be called excise duty (i think) until they were told by the EU to stop charging it..so they simply just renamed it VRT...wnakers
edit...Paying VAT twice in the EU is illegal under EU law aswell (as you said Empty One) but the Irish Gvt still get away with it. EU law is above Irish law, to avoid paying VAT in Ireland the case could be taken to the European Court, the case WILL be won its just a matter of the time it will take to win it along with solicitors fees....
