Hi, not 100% certain if this is the right section, so apologies in advance if its not.
I am in the process of purchasing a UK bike, so VRT will need to be paid, can anyone point me to a link which inform as to what mileage the bike needs to be over to avoid paying import duty also. Thanks in advance Andy

Damn Solicitors fees could work out more than the bike is worth!
As regards paying VAT twice,
If say you bought the Bike from a dealer in the EU, you will pay VAT but, you must produce the Receipt here proving that VAT indeed has already been paid.
If you bought the Bike from a person, you will not have paid VAT unless, of course that person is registered as a business and then the law states he will have to charge you VAT.

My understanding is that if you have a dealer invoice for the bike and have therefore already paid VAT in another EU country they have no right to charge you VAT a second time. They will argue otherwise, but I know of one case where the buyer did not pay Irish VAT on a bike 18 months old with less than 6k on the clock.
