Speed Triple 1050 A good / bad second bike?

I can't see any for sale here to try out, so would need to get one in the UK.
Before I follow that train of thought further though; is it too much of a jump from my first bike? (a 400cc v-twin I had for 3 years).
Too heavy? Too powerful? Reliable? etc? etc?
I've looked at a few reviews and the words "wheelie-prone" pop up once or twice!
What do you think?

I preferred my Tiger 1050. The Speed Triple is even more powerful. Will be a big jump from a 400. But you could just as easily kill yourself on a moped. The throttle works both ways etc etc.
As a bike the Speedy is possibly the best big naked bike. Engine is an abolsoute peach. Triumph's build quality is as good, if not better than anyone elses. Plenty in the uk.

I'd looked at the street triple r, and was considering buying a nice second hand one over in the UK.
But, I want something (not specifically a tourer!) which can handle a the odd long-distance; two-up.
I just figured the 1050 motor / Speed Triple's size would be better suited to that occasional possibility.
Co-incidentally Spriceburger / Wesifume, I had also thought about a Superduke / K1200R before settling on the Speed Triple idea.
Am I barking up the wrong tree altogether?

Well the BMW i am familiar with is the K1200rs, a 98 model to be specific. Which was updated to the K1200s, which is what the k1200r is without the fairings.
i had a go on a K1200S around mondello and Fark me pink! its fantastic, handling spot on, weight distribution perfect and thrust like a small jetliner..take all the fairings off and thats what the K1200S is.Stonking machines.
If i am correct its the most powerful naked class bike around. Definitely worth taking one for a test if you can.

Plus, it looks a little bit heavy, and not very nimble; particularly around Dublin city centre. A lot of machinery to manhandle. Although that's not based on any experience whatsoever! I've only ever seen one in the flesh once, parked outside last year's bike show.
Still though, if i had one, it'd be nice to put the missuz on the back of one and head for France next summer. (Which I wouldn't think would even be an option anyway on the Street Triple R).

With straight/wide bars, filterings a peice of pish.
Honestly, try one and give me a go
Shaft drive, tonnes of power, great handling
very little wind protection though, just like the Striple...you pays your money you make your choice.
Try before you buy, with the missus on the back as well as solo..(ooer)

Speed Triple for sale
I checked out the all-important insurance for Superdukes / K1200R's etc, and it turns out that the Triumph is by far the cheapest to insure.
We're talking about 300 quid cheaper for the above 2010 model; compared to a 2006 K1200R!
(Which I still can't fully understand, even since the bike itself costs more!?)
But, that's straight from the mouth of a Quinn rep on the phone, and a seperate online quote to back it up.
So; Speed Triple from the UK it is...
(Thanks for letting me know about your bike Spiceburger, but they wanted even more money to insure me on a Superduke!)
