Do you buffer? And if so, do you do life-savers every time?
I was told by one instructor that buffering wasn't appropriate in towns. I still do it, but I don't always do life-savers.
Buffering

Yes, tho' hadn't heard of that particular term.
The diagrams are good, tho' in many situations, two or more hazards can arise at one time, so the rider
must constantly scan forwards and backwards, near, middle and far - anticipating as many potential hazards, then rank or prioritise the hazards and decide what to do - LAD - Look-Assess-Decide
I was also taught to term it the Safety Bubble, Hatcho.
Good chapter on this in Motorcycle Roadcraft Police Rider's Handbook - Chapter 3 Observation

Back to the original question -
do I a lifesaver each and every time its required
- little to gain from skipping it
and lots to lose if you don't ...
as Hatcho says, hence the name, doh, 'Lifesaver' ...

any particular reason Not to use them?
(to each his own, just curious)

Usually when I wouldn't do a life-saver it's because I don't have enough time. I do look well down the road when I ride, and I look at merging roads etc, but some things just appear out of nowhere.
Example: you're approaching a minor turn to your left, and suddenly a BMW comes hurtling up to the junction. You notice the guy behind the wheel has white powder on his upper lip and he's frothing at the mouth. He's also screaming "SELL SELL SELL!!!" into his mobile phone.
You could:
a - drop the anchor and risk getting rear-ended
b - carry on and hope he doesn't kill ya
c - buffer without doing a lifesaver, coz you don't have time
Question is, in the above scenario, would you be safer not buffering than buffering without a life-saver?
