What the hell have you been up to?
Meh! Ya know yourself. Some would call it enthusiasm.
But others would, rightly, see it as a mid-life crisis.
Seriously nearly all of the points are in the car doing 80kph in 60 zones.
Considering I was once chased by traffic corps for doing in excess of 100mph in a 100kph zone ( they gave me a stern lecture but hadn't caught me on the gun) and I once passed a Garda on a speed gun doing more than twice the posted limited (he gave me a nod, nice fella) and was pulled for outrageous moves on the M50 and got away with just the speeding I reckon I am ahead.
But my fave was getting pulled for speeding, undertaking and in a bus lane! There was a tractor holding up traffic and I explained that I just wanted to clear my hazards and get by the tractor to which he said, looking disdainfully at my bike, "sure ya are riding a tractor!".
He might have let me off but he is deffo off my Christmas card list!

Question: I see that some people said they have gotten letters telling them they have points. Do you not have to send the licence in and have the points "put on" the licence? My licence is now clean, well I think it is I haven't actually seen it in a while. The insurance company asks do you have points on your licence and I answer no. Can the same not be said if all you got about points is a letter about them and your licence is as clean as the day you got it?

If you want to know how many points you have other than a letter from the RSA then you ring the RSA number for driving licenses, give your DL number and they tell you.
I am not sure what legislation is in place to support the RSA sharing this information with the insurance company but I am pretty sure it would be a breach of the data protection act.
Having said that they could ring the RSA and pretend to be you - they have all your info, DOB etc.
And having said that the RSA didn't have any record of points given in court. I believe this was closed by legislation last year.
The reason being that the court clerk had no legal right to ask you to show your license to him/her. You were directed to show it to the prosecuting Garda but there was nothing in place to say he could tell the court clerk your license number. The legislation is now in place afaik that you must present your license to the court clerk who records the license number and forwards the info with the points to the RSA.

What if you didn't bring your licence to court with you?

Interesting, the address on my licence is my family home address, not my actual address (I rent so usually move around a bit) So if I gave my currant address for a court hearing and they applied to the motor tax office, they'd have no record of a licence for me?

Nah the key part is your license number. Before the court clerk never got that info. Now they can get it from you. Then the RSA apply the points to the license. So if doesn't matter where you are living.
