Interview Question ? Why do you want / deserve this job?

I have a promotional interview on Monday.
I know (or think I know) that they are going to ask me why I want or deserve the job.
I know the usual answers:
I have a strong work ethic. I am a diligant and loyal employee. I enjoy the challanges presented to me. I have a proven track record of working successfully with a team and am self driven / self motivated. I WANT the promotion more than anyone else.
Blah blah blah.
Got any tips for me ?
What nailed it for you ?
Just picking yer brains.....
Thanks.
Tazzzie

Wanting the promotion more than anyone else is not a great reason, i want to be a millionaire but that doesn't mean i will be
You are the right person for the job, you can assure them that they won't be disappointed that the chose you, you are looking forward to the challenge and anticipate that the role will grow and progress with you.
Ooze with confidence but don't come across arrogant, let them see that you are not sihtting your kacks and that you want the job but don't seem desperate, take control of the interview from the off, If your chair is positioned with the sun in your eyes, then discretely move the chair but don't make an issue of it. If there is more than one person interviewing you, pick the stronger of the two and mirror their body language, if they are sitting poker straight and not smiling and keeping everything very serious then you do the same, if they are more relaxed and smiling then you do the same but remember its an interview
Good luck

I have the skills outlined in the job description and I bring 5+ years of expertise to this position.
The best way to respond is to give concrete examples of why your skills and accomplishments make you the best candidate for the job. .........................
Why should I HIRE U?
First of all, be sure to have researched the company prior to the interview, so you are familiar with the company's mission. Respond by giving examples why your education, skills, accomplishments, and experience will make you an asset for the employer especially by matching the requirements for position.
Tazzz, I discovered this doc online yesterday ... I think it's ace...I've an interview myself coming up so we can use you as a guinea pig for this approach

I'll give that doc a wide berth personally as I am already quite confident and I wouldnt want the negatives in there to infiltrate my brain. Wait. Poop. Damm you
I am already with the company, its not a new job, its more of an upgrade. They call it promotion, which is a bit different than I'd be used to.
I was just looking for the " I nailed it because I said......." and looking for some ideas that might add to my already awesome repertoire.
I am not lacking in the big balls department and I can and do shout my corner, but just wondered if there was anyone out there with the cherry on top of the pie....
Hey thanks for the repies. I'll let ye know how it went.

I would tend to work on the premise that you are selling yourself and what you can bring to the party. if this is an internal promotion, what advantage do you have over the other candidates, knowledge of the team, how it works, interacts, strengths and weaknesses?
More importantly, if you have your homework done, you'll have some idea of the strategy, what direction or objectives are planned for department or company overall, so tie in how you can support your company/ manager in achieving these objectives. My 2 cents
Best of luck with it!

I suppose thats the crux of it really. I have no issue with any of that to be honest, its the final question. Everyone will answer the same in terms of the bits I said above.
Sleep will fix it.

Most employers I know just want employee's to come to work do what they get paid to do, make the company some money and pish off home again. They really don't care about you, your family or anything that is happening in your life and any that do are just playing the game.
So how much will you make the company? Will you be ale to make them money without them having to stand over your shoulder watching you. If this promotion they are offering you means your going to be a manger of sorts, will you be able to manage staff and not pish them off and get the best out of them, meaning getting the staff to make money without loads of drama.
Sorry if it's a bit blunt, I'm not really able for all of positive/negative gobbledy gook or any of that office jargon that some people go on about. Maybe this will help or probably it's just a load of crap.
Anyhow good luck with it all mate, you'll knock'em dead.

Another area they like is hearing about your ideas to improve yourself and benefit the company like plans to do a course outside of work related to the job if possible. Even if you have no intention of doing it you can throw it out there just shows youve an interest in the area outside of work and are looking ahead and wanting to gain knowledge.....,,.. obviously if they hold you to it and hound you to do a course dont blame me

So Tazzzie, you said you have great leadership skills? Can you give us an example of when you last used these skills? .........
Remember, the examples don't have to be work related once what your saying is relevant!
So Tazzzie, you said your insparational, so give us an example. Etc

If it is the competency type of interview then you will need to have examples of everything. You can use the same example more than once, but don't overdo it. Prove to them what you can do based on what you have done!
Good luck.

So have in mind a difficult situation you overcame.
Do as Dick said and have in mind how you affect the position to be more productive.
Dont slag anyone off. But you know that.
Do be ready for oddball questions. e.g. How many piano tuners are there in the world. They dont want the answer but how you arrive at the answer.
How did you mentor your team to improve performance?
