Toshiba 2.5" hard drive enclosure required

Okay IBF, your next mission, should you choose to accept it. :huh:

recently my laptop died, motherboard and power supply nearly went on fire... Anyway, got a new laptop under extended warranty and the repair shop also returned my hard drive from my old laptop. I have loads of photos on it which I would like to recover, it'll take a long time to build up the porno collection again... :ph34r:

So the hard drive is a Toshiba MK1652GSX and I am looking on eBay to buy a USB powered hard drive enclosure to recover the data.

However, I just don't know which one to buy, I see some have pin type connectors but not this drive. One of the sites mentions an ATA-8 Interface but I don't know what this means.

So hoping some of you techie heads might point me in the right direction :Chin scratch:

Two things required are:

Suitable for 2.5" drive
Uses SATA connectors

An example would be this one - linky

They are only a couple of quid on ebay or amazon and there's loads to choose from. Make sure to get one which requires USB connection only and not a separate power cable - this applies to almost all the 2.5" enclosures anyway. Also check customer reviews to see how other folks got on with the product. Shipping will probably come to as much as the item itself as they are so cheap but look at various products as the cost will vary a bit.

Very easy to assemble , push into place and a couple of screws ...

Excellent, thanks a mil folks.

I wasn't sure what connection type I needed, is SATA th econnection type? (The ATA-8 Interface comment was kinda throwing me a bit)

@The Sherriff, nice one, I need idiotproof.

@Kaos, I am working today and tomorrow

but might be able to drop out for a while? Where is the pale you are thinking of that sells them? I would be interested in picking one up before Christmas if possible.

Fr. D if your just looking to recover data and don't want to use the drive as a portable one then why not try this.

If you go the portable option then something like this link

Don't worry about ATA-8 it's standard SATA 7 pin. Your drive is SATA-300 (SATA II) so you may have to set the jumper pins to SATA-150 (SATA I) to work on some PC's / Laptops.
