met a few IBFers in Glenmalure car park for last hill walk of 2011 and to shed some christmas cheer
myself,Giller,Stellar,Paul & Kelpie,Flash and their 2 dogs
flash kelpie & 2 dogs joined us for about half hour as this was all young Dane pup was able for
myself Giller Stellar & paul soldiered on and then Stellar couldnt go on due to previous angle injury so she decided to head back to Glenmalure lodge and wait for us
we had planned on getting to top of Lugnaquilla and further a field about 5 hours altogether but I found the steep climb to about 800 metres tough going and wind near top of ridge was fierce
alternativive plan was swung into action but wind getting worse and I felt worse for wear and felt couldnt do another few hours of harse winds and rain clouds coming our way so we decided to head back down the way we came (im sure the fitter younger Giller & paul who are used to mountains would have gone on but they wouldnt leave me on my own) so we eventually made it back to cars and joined Stellerin Glenmalure lodge(who was just sipping her soup and looking forward to a few hours peace)had a noice bowl of soup and a few sambos and headed our seperate ways
am now at home warm & dry and relaxing if a little sore & tired but worth it
many thanks guys for today hopefully first one of 2012 will be better

Actually I was thinking of you yesterday how you were up there, it was so windy. I just got out of the house and around the corner and my big umbrella got broken by the winds. But sounds like you enjoyed the day despite all the difficulties, that's great. I'm sure you are all feeling lighter now and not so guilty about eating all the pies over Christmas Nice pictures too

A great walk in good weather but it must have been tough in that gale. Getting to the top of Lug would be an achievement, its easier from the eastern side, so there's a target for you for 2012!
