dropped me HTC desire HD at weekend and broke screen

cost to repair 110 euro ffs

out of contract and due upgrade so thinking of the iphone 4s as son has one and swears by it

was talking to a few IBFers at weekend and they said it was shiite and recommended the samsung galaxy s so just wondering do any of you

out there have any preference/recommendations/views

Have you thought about replacing the screen yourself. Flash broke the screen on his iphone and we got a replacement on ebay. Fiddly job but perfectly doable and much cheaper than getting someone else to do it!

Martin there is a shop in Sligo that repair phones, one of the lads in work got his Sony Ericsson screen replaced there, I can try and get you the number if you like, no harm in calling them to get a price.

Most of the mobi shops in Moore Street will repair a screen for around €40 (iPhone) I'm on my third screen...and it's cracked too

Ordered a DIY kit on the net and it arrived today .. €8...watch this space

I've dropped my HTC Desire so many times now I think it thinks it is a hammer. Still no scratches on the screen. On the other hand I've seen Iphones take the smallest tumble and have the screen shatter.

Had an iPhone myself and hated it. The most irritating thing was the call quality. Was always dropping calls. Was quite a bit better when I put a cover on as suggest by other pundits. TBH that is a crock if you ask me. They design a phone and tell you the only way to make work properly is to buy an accessory. Besides I like to put my phone in a belt clip pouch which does not allow for addition of a cover on the phone so left with very little choice but to put up with crap call quality or replace. Went for option two and returned to Blackberry. (not ever bodies cup of tea I know, but at least it can make a call without dropping it.

I have a staff member that uses the Galaxy and he loves it to bits after swapping to it from an iPhone.

On the other hand the iPhone does have a fantasic interface and is very easy to use. Not sure that makes up for the short comings of the phone call bit.

As for new phone, I have an iphone and love it and such as life, people with other phones like them, so rarely get people to criticise their own phone

Got the Sony Ericsson Arc s a few weeks ago and I LOVE it... Its got everything I need and the android market is great for apps. Large screen, very light, Its a bit fragile though, would deffo get a cover for it although you'd have to look online for one, can't find any in the shops. Not an apple fan at all... Dont like the interface. You'd do well with any of the top spec smart phones out now.. Another one to look at is the HTC Sensation, Would be very similer to your HD. Onother one is the Samsung Galaxy S. HTC have released two windows interface phones as well but dont know much about them.

I know what you mean have been dropping mine regularly since getting it and lumps gone out of phone but screen stayed in tact until this time when it fell screen down onto ground only fault i found with the desire HD was battery life shiite had to make sure to turn off intrnet and carry cig charger in car and put phone on charge every night so you get used to it

I have the I phone 4s and well impressed but still drops calls and never sure if messages send no group on messages but there are apps for all things battery max is 24 hrs for my usage and most downloads go through apple I store as opposed to mp3 music players which out sold I pods this xmass for the simpler and more cost effective music as u can see it dosent do punctuation or spelling but has a nasty auto correct but I'm sure there are apps

Be careful replacing the screen yourself. Iv heard of folk rendering then useless. It's a bit tricky cause you have to take the whole phone apart from the back to get at the screen.I smashed mine and was gonna order one of the net but chickened out and a guy in a phone shop to fix it.

I really like iPhone, but the Mrs got a HTC Evo 3d that takes 3d photos. (bit gimmicky but cool all the same) best thing about it though is the screen is massive. Great for reading the web and watching video. Might be awkward to fit in pocket but she doesn't have any and just chucks it in her bag

Slight off topic but if you have a smartphone get the app "whatsapp". You can send free text messages and photos and the like to another smart phone. By far the app I use most.
And "Viber" for free calls. Bit like Skype but shows all of your contacts who have Viber too

Don't make the mistake of getting the Galaxy S instead of the Galaxy S2. The S2 is a whole other kettle of fish!
