It is sickening to see vastly wealthy tax exiles turning up at ego boosting charity events dispensing their largesse like colonial overseers whilst refusing to pay tax like ordinary citizens.
I don't know who said the above, but therein lies a big problem, and until the government fix that everybody should protest at the household and septic tank charges..because these are only the thin edge of the wedge. The government is afraid to have a referendum on the
Shins I never had any faith in the E.U, it started out as an economic bloc, but soon decended into a political farce with a never ending gravy train for the select few...rebuild the whole thing as a social/economic bloc and then i will support it...until then i am Irish with an Irish outlook and identity, and any continental who wants to take that from me, better come armed. Its a failed entity as it stands, with no solidarity...just take one look at Greece, the EU should be helping them...not threatening them and whatever mistakes they made, we as Irish have no right to look down and smirk at them (thats what our leaders are doing)they are working people like ourselves, trying to make a living and maybe ride their bikes like me and you, and put some food on the table and have a few lucozades at the week-end. The E.U has to look at the people and treat them as people............not economic units.

Not if he gave me 50 euro wud I register .
And if he looked into the Galway case he wud be well educated as to what went wrong
He must think that we all came down the Shannon on a cream cracker
They while they are re looking at these taxes should relook at there manifesto for election and like all good relationships ,realise that they are built on trust.
Show the people of this state you mean business by standing up to the bullies of Europe anilate the cronies of previous governments tell the gamblers to live with it as the lived wit the wins. Jail the treasonous baskets that defrauded this state show them up name and shame followed by jail dont be chasing the little powerless man or woman to sort it out
Because mark my words the powerless will become a force that ye have not reckoned for .
as a state and race we tend to have a high tolerance level breach it and as me ma wud say
Wowh be tied ya !

Be careful what ye wish for,..
I agree with what u r saying,. the whole bail out is basically a new method of taking in case for those that run the elite systems at their highest.
But have a wee look back over world recessions, and what they triggered,. recessions & wars go hand in hand,. wars are a good way to generate even more wealth when things are tight, and get people back working and pre occupied with the 'enemy without' rather that the 'enmey within'

understand where you're coming from topcat...but the germans are great ones at destroying the enemy within...1933-1945, and are starting here now...look at the list perpetuated by both government and media..at German "austerity programme" insistance.
single mothers..
foriegn nationals..
public service..
welfare "cheats"..
you won't see too many developers or bankers on that list, so the enemy within has been chosen, and if I'm one of them.....I will resist.
BTW.....I wouldn't believe the date on the daily mail.

Household Charge – how to LEGALLY avoid paying it
How you don’t have to legally pay Household Tax!!- You wont get a bill because the charge is a Statute. People need to understand this: A Statute is a “legislated rule of society given the force of law by the consent of the governed.”(Blacks Law Dictionary 4th edition). Who are those it governs? Us, the public.
This household charge is a Statute, otherwise known as an Act of Government and only carries the force of law upon you if you consent to it which means that your legally obliged to pay if you consent or in other words go on to householdcharge.ie and register. Your silence and inaction will also give the appearance of consent. If you do not consent, a Statute cannot affect you in any way whatsoever.
The courts know this and the last thing they will do is tell you. In fact they will hide this from you at every opportunity they can. On the other hand, if you tell them, they will accept it because they know it is actually true. According to the above definitions a statutory instrument is a contract. If you register for this “charge” you are consenting to this statuate ie: signing the contract. This is why the Government are ASKING the people to register and not just billing them instead.
There is barrister on the Pat Kenny radio show now and he says that the talk about not needing to pay this because it's a statute and you must consent is complete rubbish. All tax laws are statute based.
If we don't pay the outstanding balance will accrue a penalty charge of 30% per year until it is cleared.

A podcast will be available here later today: http://www.rte.ie/ra...aywithpatkenny/

So are you just going to pay it then Eamon?
People are completely missing the point. I myself, and thousands like me simply do not have the money to pay these charges, because at the end of the month we barely have enough to survive on.
I'd love to have a kid with the Misuus..its not going to happen, if two adults working and paying thier bills can't have enough at the end of the month, then how could i bring a baby into that situation.
No one is getting any money off me for me to live in my own house. Simple as.

I'm not saying people should/should not pay. More tax is trying to extract blood from stone. And, I'm all for protest - it's often the only way the masses can communicate with the government.
The rumour that says "You are not liable to pay if you don't register" is wrong. That's why I posted.
If people don't pay because they believed the rumour that would be sad. It they don't pay because they genuinely want to protest, and understand there may be consequences, I'm OK with that.
There was mention of getting a waiver because of inability to pay but I can't remember the details. Best people listen to the show and make up their own minds. The segment will be available as a podcast later today: http://www.rte.ie/ra...aywithpatkenny/

Sorry, i did get that from your post but i started with a jumping up and down attitude.
Yes, we need clarity on the subject, something we will not get from those imposing this proposed tax.

You are even more fecked if you have 4 kids like me. Now I’m already using part of my child allowance to pay the bills, but there is no money left over to pay the €100 or is there? Well to satisfy the government, I guess I can pay that tax with my credit card, but that is already maxed out enough.

We have been hoodwinked lied to cheated and nearly destroyed as a nation while those that were paid vasts amounts of money were at the race course or not at there desk doing there job
They have left the building with golden handshakes and big pensions vast amounts of money hoarded in doggy deals foreign properties
Start there take the money back and start telling the truth instead of hiding behind bullsiht and flexible statements that can have a host of different meanings in the future when it suits
If there are many many more like me there are consequences for both sides

One other sickening thing just introduced here....a tax reduction for "foreign professionals"... whats the betting this will be abused like all other tax loopholes...what constitutes a "professional" ? I work in a dangerous industry, in very hazardous conditions...but I will never be considered a "professional"(fck me after surving last winter i consider myself having earned a doctorate)This reduction will soon be applied to skills shortages, and be reduced and abused further, skills shortages can be anything from web designers to mushroom pickers! All this is at the behest of the
"markets", well sorry Fg/Lab, I did not vote for the markets and they can sing for household tax, or any other tax that I can withold.

I can afford to pay €100.00
However, i cannot afford to pay the snowball of charges that come afterwards. its €100.00 for tthe first payment, then there will be a Home tax and water charges. at least €1300.00 is the cost per year being bandies about, add to that you pay for waste services etc etc. enough is enough.

But prisons are soooo yesterday. The modern way of doing things is to issue everyone with an ID card upon which all sorts of details about them are kept, such as any court orders against them, are they up to date with their taxes and so on. Having to produce this card every time they interact with a state agency, quango or even business where credit/debit cards are used means that certain services or other rights can be denied you, just like a prison but without the walls or expense of a guard. Want to leave the country? No can do if you have to produce your ID card to book the ticket and it says you owe money to the government.
