a proper wealth tax should be introduced before any tax on the family home. There are billions floating around this country...remember all those sites and hotels and properties that were sold in the boom, someone trousered that....it wasn't burnt on a bonfire. Its still out there, possibly in foreign accounts, but it is there and can be traced easily if the government wanted to. In a fair taxation system I would pay a property tax, reluctantly, but I agree with it in principle, and it should be taken with house insurance like VAT. But when i pay more tax than the like of Desmond...Magnier..O Brien who all carry Irish passports...they can feck off.

It is sickening to see vastly wealthy tax exiles turning up at ego boosting charity events dispensing their largesse like colonial overseers whilst refusing to pay tax like ordinary citizens.

I don't know who said the above, but therein lies a big problem, and until the government fix that everybody should protest at the household and septic tank charges..because these are only the thin edge of the wedge.The government is afraid to have a referendum on the starvation fiscal treaty because they say that it will come down to a vote on all these issues...health cuts..household charges..welfare cuts...special needs cuts, well in my opinion, thats what it is all about, and more of the same to come..the issues are not seperate.

Shins I never had any faith in the E.U, it started out as an economic bloc, but soon decended into a political farce with a never ending gravy train for the select few...rebuild the whole thing as a social/economic bloc and then i will support it...until then i am Irish with an Irish outlook and identity, and any continental who wants to take that from me, better come armed. Its a failed entity as it stands, with no solidarity...just take one look at Greece, the EU should be helping them...not threatening them and whatever mistakes they made, we as Irish have no right to look down and smirk at them (thats what our leaders are doing)they are working people like ourselves, trying to make a living and maybe ride their bikes like me and you, and put some food on the table and have a few lucozades at the week-end. The E.U has to look at the people and treat them as people............not economic units.

Like mr philander hogan, back tracking on the sepectic tank issue and reconsidered the 50 euro fee for registration is now offering it at 5 euro if you go early and register , and gave some reasoning that they wud like to avoid an issue wit water pollution as in the Galway water case of last year.
Not if he gave me 50 euro wud I register .
And if he looked into the Galway case he wud be well educated as to what went wrong

I agree with what u r saying,. the whole bail out is basically a new method of taking in case for those that run the elite systems at their highest.

But have a wee look back over world recessions, and what they triggered,. recessions & wars go hand in hand,. wars are a good way to generate even more wealth when things are tight, and get people back working and pre occupied with the 'enemy without' rather that the 'enmey within'

People are completely missing the point. I myself, and thousands like me simply do not have the money to pay these charges, because at the end of the month we barely have enough to survive on.

I'd love to have a kid with the Misuus..its not going to happen, if two adults working and paying thier bills can't have enough at the end of the month, then how could i bring a baby into that situation.

No one is getting any money off me for me to live in my own house. Simple as.

I'm not saying people should/should not pay. More tax is trying to extract blood from stone. And, I'm all for protest - it's often the only way the masses can communicate with the government.

The rumour that says "You are not liable to pay if you don't register" is wrong. That's why I posted.

If people don't pay because they believed the rumour that would be sad. It they don't pay because they genuinely want to protest, and understand there may be consequences, I'm OK with that.

You are even more fecked if you have 4 kids like me. Now I’m already using part of my child allowance to pay the bills, but there is no money left over to pay the €100 or is there? Well to satisfy the government, I guess I can pay that tax with my credit card, but that is already maxed out enough.

I'm with Spikeo on this, I just won't pay. I can afford to pay it, and would have no problem paying it, once it was being used to benefit the country or services. I don't mind paying tax,once it is used properly and based on a fair and progressive system. I pay 38% tax on my earnings in Norway, if me or my wife became sick in the morning all i have to do is get there to be seen immediatly...no waiting list, no consultant fees, just get there.I was also paying some tax here voluntarily but no more, because this tax is paying for bad debts that I or 80% of Irish people never ran up, I have a moral problem with that! If they want a garnishing order for me....they may apply to the Norwegian courts.

One other sickening thing just introduced here....a tax reduction for "foreign professionals"... whats the betting this will be abused like all other tax loopholes...what constitutes a "professional" ? I work in a dangerous industry, in very hazardous conditions...but I will never be considered a "professional"(fck me after surving last winter i consider myself having earned a doctorate)This reduction will soon be applied to skills shortages,and be reduced and abused further, skills shortages can be anything from web designers to mushroom pickers! All this is at the behest of the
"markets", well sorry Fg/Lab, I did not vote for the markets and they can sing for household tax, or any other tax that I can withold.

I can afford to pay €100.00

However, i cannot afford to pay the snowball of charges that come afterwards. its €100.00 for tthe first payment, then there will be a Home tax and water charges. at least €1300.00 is the cost per year being bandies about, add to that you pay for waste services etc etc. enough is enough.

Listened to that pat kenny podcast spinning fear and disinformation,their getting worried people are asking questions, you would not want to make your mind up based on what you hear on a state funded radio show,do your own research on contract law and statutes you dont need to be a solicitor or a barrister research then research some more then wake up.
